Over the years, the Masai Mara National Reserve Entry Fee has been changing depending on the season of visit. However, it's good to note that the best time to visit the popular reserve is between July and October when the wildebeest and other herbivores travel from Tanzania's Serengeti National Park to Masai Mara. During this time, however, the fees are usually hiked, and most hotels are booked.

It is important for visitors entering Masai Mara National Reserve to familiarize themselves with the revised entry fees. The entry fees for international visitors have increased by a significant margin, which is proof of the growing demand for access.

Even though the fees for local residents have also been raised, they remain lower compared to that of international tourists.

How Do I Get To Maasai Mara National Reserve?

While Masai Mara is in a remote location, it is easily accessible. For international visitors, your trip to Masai Mara starts at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, where most arrivals occur. From there, you can access the world-famous game destination by air or road.

But since some roads are usually in poor condition, especially during the rainy season, we recommend air travel. The most convenient way is by flying from Wilson Airport to one of the major airstrips located in the Masai Mara. Some of the most popular airlines are SafariLink and AirKenya, and the flight takes between 45 and 60 minutes. Below are the most well-known airstrips in the Mara:

Mara North
Serena
Keekorok
Ol Kiombo
Musiara

If you choose to travel by road, then we recommend a guided drive-in safari. The distance is about 280 Km and the drive takes about 5-6 hours.

First, you will travel from Nairobi to Narok and you will have a few minutes to relax at the famous Great Rift Valley escarpment viewpoint in Mai Mahiu. Here, you will not only be impressed by the stunning scenes but also you'll get the opportunity to buy Kenyan souvenirs.

In Narok, you will have another break to stretch your legs, get a few snacks, and visit the toilet. From there, your next stop will be Masai Mara, and you are guaranteed an opportunity to see the local Masai people and their manyattas (traditional huts).

Key Takeaway

Is the Masai Mara National Reserve entry fee worth it? The answer is yes. An entry to the famous game destination isn't just a ticket to exploring Africa's majestic wildlife but also a golden opportunity to create unforgettable memories in the wild. From witnessing the highly anticipated Wildebeest Migration to engaging in activities such as hot air balloons, every penny you pay counts.
